Section 23
(1)
Every person in charge of or performing designated radio duties on a ship shall be at least 18 years of age and shall be certified in accordance with the
SOLAS Convention and the Constitution and Convention of the International
Telecommunication Union.
(2)
Every person in charge of or performing radio duties on a ship required to participate in the Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) shall hold an appropriate certificate and the minimum requirements for GMDSS certification shall be in accordance with section A-IV/2 of the STCW Code and as set out in rule 13 of the Training and Assessment Rules in the Third Schedule.
