of Merchant Shipping (Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping) Regulations, 2002
A certificate of competency for deck officers may be issued for the following grades -
(a} officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of 500 tons or more;

chief mate on ships of 500 tons or more;
(c} master on ships of 500 tons or more;
(d} chief mate on ships of between 500 and 3,000 tons operating in near-coastal voyages;
fe}
master on ships of between 500 and 3,000 tons operating in near-coastal voyages;
If} officer in charge of a navigational watch on ships of less than 500
tons operating in near-coastal voyages;
(g}
master on ships of 500 tons or less operating in near-coastal voyages.

Certification Rules in the Second Schedule.
