Section 83

If a woman neglects or refuses to maintain her illegitimate child who is unable to maintain himself, other than a child born as a result of rape, the Court may, upon due proof thereof, order her to make such maintenance as it thinks reasonable.

Maintenance under this section shall be payable from the date of commencement of the neglect or refusal to maintain or from such later date as may be specified in the order.
