Appointment of Chief Syar’ie Judge

Section 8
(1)
His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan may, on the advice of the President of the Majlis and after consultation with the Majlis, appoint a Chief Syar’ie Judge.
(2)
A person is qualified to be appointed under subsection (1) if —
(a)
he is a citizen of Brunei Darussalam; and

(b)
he —
(i)
has, for a cumulative period of not less than 7 years prior to his appointment, served as either a Judge of a
Syariah Court, or Kadi, or in both capacities; or
(ii)
is a person learned in Hukum Syara’.
