(1)
The parent or guardian of a person who has not attained the age of 16 years may, with his consent, enter into a written contract of apprenticeship, apprenticing him to an employer to train him or to have him

trained systematically for an agreed trade or employment for a period not exceeding 5 years.
(2)
Whenever any person who has not attained the age of 16 years is without a known parent or guardian, the Commissioner may authorise his apprenticeship, and may appoint any fit and proper person to sign the contract of apprenticeship and act generally as his guardian.
