(THE' REMOVAL OF VEHICLES RULES,
1968)
Opening note
These Rules may be cited as the Removal of
Vehicles Rules, 1968.
It shall be the duty of the owner, driver or other person in ~ontrol or in charge of any vehicle -
when the vehicle has brokem down on a road in such circumstances that the de~

ide ·is _ likely to obstruct or to cause dangeE_ t()_<?._~her traffic t1sing the road; or
when required to do so by "a police officer on the ground that the 'vehicle has been permitted to remain at rest on a road in such a position or in such con-dition or in such circumstances as to be likely to cause danger to traffic using the road.
to remove or take all reasonable steps to secure the removal of such vehicle as soon as practicable.
It shall be the duty of a police officer to take all reasonable steps to remove or to employ some other person to remove and where necessary to provide for the safe custody of any vehicle if he has reason to believe -
that the owner or the driver or other person in control or in charge thereof has failed to take all reasonable steps to remove it or cause it to be removed in accordance with the provisions of Rule 2 hereof; or
When any police officer removes or provides for the safe custody of any vehicle or employs any other person to remove it or provide for its safe custody in accordance with rule 3 hereof, except upon proof of failure to exercise reasonable care, neither the police officer nor any other person shall be liable to any action or demand whatsoever for the recovery of any alleged damage to such vehicle or otherwise in respect of the removal thereof.
( 1 ) The expenses of removal of .any vehicle shall not exceed thirty dollars and the expenses of deten-tion of any such vehicle shall be at the rate of ten dollars per day.
( 2) The expenses of removal of any load included in any such vehicle shall not exceed thirty dollars per load and the expense of detention of any such load shall be at the rate of ten dollars per day.
For the purposes of the Rules other than Rule 5 the word 'vehicle' shall include any load carrieq thereby.
Any person·who fails to comply with any of the provisions of rule 2 hereof shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of not ex-ceeding two hundred dollars.
