Further continued detention of patient
(1)
Where a person who is detained by an order made under section 7(4), 8(4)(b) or 12(4)(b) is not sooner discharged, a designated medical practitioner of the psychiatric facility shall, before the expiration of that order, conduct such examination on him as he may consider necessary to determine whether or not his continued detention is justified.

(2)
The examination of the patient shall be done by two designated medical practitioners, one of whom shall be a psychiatrist.
(3)
Where upon an examination under subsection (1), the designated medical practitioners —
(a)
are not satisfied that his continued detention is justified, they shall discharge him; or
(b)
are satisfied that his continued detention is justified, they shall make an order for his detention for a further period not exceeding 6 months.
