Section 58A
Power to compound offences
(1)
The Controller and any Immigration Officer not below the rank of Senior Immigration Officer specially authorised by name or by office by the Minister by notification published in the Gazette for the purpose, may in his discretion —
(a)
in relation to any offence under sections 5(3) and 15(2) or any regulations made under this Act, if he is satisfied that any person

has committed such offence, compound the offence by collecting from that person a sum of money not exceeding $600;
(b)
in relation to any offence under this Act or any regulations made thereunder which has been prescribed as an offence which may be compounded by the Controller and any such Immigration Officer, if he is satisfied that any person has committed such offence, compound the offence by collecting from that person a sum of money not exceeding $600.
(2)
Any sum of money collected under this section shall be dealt with as if it were a fine imposed by a Court.
(3)
The Minister may make rules to prescribe the offence under this
Act or under any regulations made thereunder which may be compounded under subsection (1)(b) and the procedure to be followed in the exercise of the powers conferred by subsection (1).
