Exclusive Economic Zone Proclamation

an outer-limit consisting of a line 200 miles distant from the baseline from which the breadth of the territorial sea of Brunei Darussalam is measured:

a lateral boundary with the adjoining territory of Sabah, consisting of the same boundary as was promulgated for the continental shelf of North Borneo by

Order-in-Council of 1 1 th September 1958 (S. 1 1958 No. 15 17) but continued out to the 200 mile limit by a straight line;

a lateral boundary with the adjoining territory of Sarawak, consisting of the same boundary as was promulgated for the continental shelf of Sarawak by

Order-in-Council of I I th September 1958 (S. 1 1958 No. 1518) but continued out to the 200 mile limit by a straight line.

Article 5

Large scale map

The limit indicated in Article 4 is depicted on a large scale map Series : Misc. Edition:

JUAB Sheet which is deposited in the office of the Surveyor General.

Article 6

Alteration to limits

The limits of this zone may from time to time, be altered where necessary to give effect to any international agreement duly concluded by the Government of Brunei

Darussalam.

Article 7

Rights within the zone

Within this zone Brunei Darussalam has, to the extent permitted by international law

sovereign rights for the purpose of exploring, exploiting, conserving and managing natural resources, both living and non-living, of the seabed and subsoil and the superjacent waters;

jurisdiction with regard to the establishment and use of artificial islands, and installations and structures;

jurisdiction to authorise and control marine scientific research;

(4 jurisdiction to protect and preserve the marine environment.

Article 8

Legislation

Laws providing for and regulating the exercise of the rights and jurisdiction enumerated in Article 7 shall be enacted as necessary from time to time.

Article 9

Saving

Nothing contained in this Proclamation shall prejudice or restrict the rights enjoyed by

Brunei Darussalam by virtue of international law to areas of continental shelf extending beyond the limits of the present exclusive economic zone.

So be it. Such is the Proclamation of an Exclusive Economic Zone.

May ALLAH, to whom be praise and whose name be exalted, the King of Kings, vouchsafe His grace and may the Prophet Muhammad (on whom be the benediction and peace of ALLAH) grant His Blessings to this Proclamation, for ever and ever, Amen!
