Section 148
(1)
The Magistrate may summon and examine supplementary witnesses after the committal and before the commencement of the trial and

Criminal Procedure Code bind them over in manner provided in section 146 to appear and give evidence.
(2)
Such witnesses shall be examined in the presence of the accused, who shall have the right to cross-examine them.
