Section 14
Criminal jurisdiction of Magistrates
Subject to the provisions of this Code, every Magistrate shall have cognisance of and power and authority to -
(a)
hear, try, determine and dispose of in a summary way prosecutions for offences cognisable by such Magistrate;
(8)
inquire into offences committed or alleged to have been committed with a view to committal for trial by the High Court;
(c)
inquire into complaints of offences and summons and examine witnesses relating such offences and summons and apprehend and issue warrants for the apprehension of criminals and offenders, and deal with them according to law;
(d)
issue search warrants under the provisions of this Code in that behalf, and require persons to furnish security for the peace or for their good behaviour according to law;
(e)
hold inquests; and do all other matters and things which a Magistrate is empowered to do by this Code or any other Act.
