THE MERCHANT SHIPPING {SAFETY ZONES) ORDER, 1988
Opening note
This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Safety Zones)
Order, 1988 and shall come into operatio~ on the 1st day of March 1988.
The areas defined in the Schedule to this Order are hereby declared to be Safety Zones for the purposes of Article 60 (4) of the United Na-tions Convention on the Law of the Sea, 1982.
It is further declared that Safety Zones are hereby established around all other oilfield installations and structures extending to a dis-tance of 500 metres measured from each point on the edge of the in-stallations and structures situated within the area of the territorial waters and continental shelf of Brunei Darussalam, that do not lie wi-thin the areas defined in the Schedule to this Order.

The master or owner of any vessel or any person found to be in

contravention of the provisions of this Order shall on conviction be li@ble to a fine not exceeding $100,000 and the vessel shall be liable to be detained in accordance with the procedures laid down in Section 29 of the Ports Act (Cap. 144).
