CUSTOMS (ASEAN PREFERENTIAL TRADING ARRANGEMENT)
ORDER, 1988

Opening note
This Order may be cited as the 01stoms (ASEAN Preferential
Trading Arrangement) Order, 1988 anG shall be deemed to have come into force on 24th day of December, 1988.
In this Order
'' ASEAN'' means the Association of Sou~h East Asian Nations.
"scheduled goods" means goods which have been placed under
ASEAN Preferential Trading Arrangement (PTA) scheme and the importation of which shall be eligible for preferential treatment.
"%" means percentage of value.
For the purpose of implementing the preferential rates of duty the scheduled goods must be shown to the satisfaction of the Controller of
Customs to be -
a} products originated from or manufactured in the exporting member country of ASEAN in acordance with the Rules of
Origin laid down in the Agreement of ASEAN Preferential
Trading Arrangement (PTA) ;
products covered by a certificate of origin issued by the authorising body in the exporting member country of
ASEAN.

( 1) The rates of import duty on scheduled goods are specified in
Rates of the fifth column of the First Schedule.
Import duty.
Such rates of import duty shall be levied and paid by the im-porter in lieu of the full duty where the Controller of Customs is satisfied that the provisions of paragraph 3 of this Order have been complied with.
For the purpose of section 8 of the Customs Act, member countries of ASEAN are hereby specified as prescribed countries.
